Suzanne is fortunate to have acquired her art education and experience from a variety of teachers across the United States and abroad. She began her art education in with basic drawing classes and the theory of color and brushwork in Monterey, California. She continued to study and work with local artists and teachers in Maryland and Germany. In 1970, Suzanne studied advanced drawing techniques with Ray Lopez-Aleman, under the auspices of the Museum of Art in El Paso, Texas.
In 1975, while living in the Washington, D.C. area, Suzanne began a 10-year program of study, teaching and competition to perfect her artistic skills. She was a member of a critique class conducted by Jack Perlmutter and honed her plein aire techniques with Jennie Lea Knight. She culminated her art education by spending a year studying life drawing at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.
For over 20 years Suzanne owned her own gallery in the historic village of Occoquan, in Northern Virginia, just south of Washington, D.C. There, she taught art classes, and exhibited and sold her own paintings, as well as those of her fellow artists. In 1998, she moved her residence and studio to the sun and light of Florida, where she is discovering the unique colors and textures of the Everglades and the lush landscapes of old Naples.
Today, Suzanne devotes the majority of her time to painting and sculpting. Although Suzanne’s painting style is impressionism, that has not kept her from exploring a more intuitive expressionistic style of painting involving a freer use of brush and paint. Her explorations in this style produced an Award of Excellence for one of her paintings entered in the 42nd founders Juried Exhibition at the von Liebing Art Center in Naples, Florida.
Suzanne loves to travel and paint the American Southwest, the wild swampy Florida, rocks and streams of Virginia and the Tuscan part of Italy . These are all places she has lived and yet she never tires of exploring their uniqueness.
